What happens when a swap is refunded
Why a swap can be refunded, where the funds go back to, what it costs, and how to follow it.
Why a refund happens
The price moved beyond the tolerance you accepted, the amount was too small for the protocol, or the protocol paused trading on one of the chains. In each case the protocol does not complete the swap and sends the funds back.
A swap within one chain through KyberSwap is not refunded: if the minimum cannot be met, the transaction reverts and only the network fee is spent.
Where the funds go
To the wallet that signed, or to the refund address given when the deposit address was opened. The status page links to the refund transaction once the protocol has sent it.
A partial refund means part of the amount was swapped and paid out, and the rest came back. Both transactions are shown.
What it costs
The network fees already spent, and the protocol’s fee for sending the funds back on the source chain. On a small amount these can take a large part of it, which is why routes warn when an amount is below the protocol’s recommended minimum.
Compare routes for your own swap
Pick two assets and an amount: every source is asked at once and ranked on what arrives after every fee. No wallet needed to compare.
